"As I Said...Pursuade Me"

While Will is over on The Flying Dutchman Jack and Elizabeth had quite the conversation on the Black Pearl about how Will was captured Davy Jones and Jack had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with it....(yeah surrre)  Elizabeth kind of believes him so their conversation turns into an "lets share all our secrets" session and Elizabeth produces some papers (Apparently very  interesting papers,)And of course curious Jack has to Question her about how she came by letters of marque signed by Lord Cutler Beckett.

Persuade me.....

Jack (about the letters Beckett signed): "Might I enquirer as to how you came by these?"
Elizabeth: "Persuasion."
Jack: "Friendly?"
Elizabeth: "Decidedly not."

Jack swipes the letters out of her hands.

Elizabeth: "Jack, the letters, give them back.
Jack: No. Persuade me."
Elizabeth: "You do know Will taught me how to handle a sword."
Jack: "As I said...Persuade me."

You're a good man.

Hmm, Just what does Jack want?  Well duhh he wants a kiss. However right then she didn't take the bait. She sat with Jack's compass ( the one that directs you to what you want most)  For a while but gave up because it kept pointing to Jack.  Well then she decides to list all of Jacks wonderful attributes. And then try to kiss him only to decide in the end she doesn't want to kiss him. This didn't make Jack very happy.  Well I think Elizabeth is off her rocker....Because later in the movie she decides to reaffirm her love of Will right in front of Jack.

Is he the one?

And after that long fight on the island over the chest, they all return back to the ship. Day Jones and his crew are on their boat right next to them so Jack decides to flaunt what they found in the chest. expect he doesn't have it.(ooops) Even though Jack doesn't even have the heart of Jones, The kraken is sent after them anyways. And here come Elizabeth final decision (shes been doing a lot of deciding lately and it doesn't seem to be paying off if you ask me)  She has to chose either to save Jack and be chased by the kraken with the rest of the crew, or to kill Jack and be safe. Well lets just say she sealed his fate with a kiss. And Jack was on the ship when the kraken came back for it's second attack.  Do you think Elizabeth made the right decision?

"Jack Sparrow Sent Me"

Will, determined to ensure Elizabeth's safety, agrees to find Jack the key to the heart of Davy Jones as a trade for Jack's compass.  The crew sets out to find the Dutchman.  Intead, they find a shipwrecked boat in the middle of the sea.  Will: "That's the Flying Dutchman?  She doesn't look like much."  Jack: "Neither do you.  Do NOT underestimate her."  Of course, Jack knows its not really the Flying Dutcman but what Will doesn't know, won't hurt him.  Well, sorta.  Gibbs: "Must of run a fowl of the reef."  Jack: "So what's your plan then?"  Will: "I row over, search the ship until I find your bloody key."  Jack: "And if there are crew men?"  Will: "I cut down anyone in my path."  Jack: "I like it.  Simple.  Easy to remember."  Yes, Will is quite the genius.

Will hops onto the little ship and finds all these terrible looking people who are at the verge of death.  Confused, he tries to look around for the key.  Then, the real Flying Dutchman appears captained by none other than Davy Jones himself.  Jones recruits some of the others on the ship, and then kills the others.  Jones: "Life is cruel.  Why should the afterlife be any different."  He reaches Will and is somewhat confused.  Jones: "You are neither dead nor dying.  What is your purpose here?"  Will, remembering what Jack told him to say if he ran into any trouble, weakly says, "Jack Sparrow sent me to settle his debt."  Jones: "What is your purpose here?"  Will: "Jack Sparrow... sent me to settle his debt."  Jones:"Did he now?  I'm sorely tempted to accept that offer."


Captain Davy Jones and his crew use their creepy teleportation powers to hop on board the Black Pearl.  Jones reminds Jack of their agreement: that Jack would captain the Pearl for thirteen years and then spend the rest of his life on board the Flying Dutchman.  As tempting as that sounds, Jack tries to decline this, claiming he was only captain for two years before the was stranded on the island.  Jones:  "Then you were a poor captain but a captain nonetheless."  Ouch.  Jack: "You have my payment.  One soul to serve on your ship is already over there."  Jones: "One soul is not equal to another."  Jack: "Aha!  So we've established my proposal in sound principle.  Now we're just haggling over a price."  Actually, I think Will is pretty cool.  Jones:  "Price?"  Jack: "Just how many souls do you think my soul is worth?"  Jones: "One hundred souls."  Wow.  Jack must have quite a divine soul.  Jack, however, wants to keep Will with him on the quest for souls.  Jack: "Have you not met Will Turner?  He's noble, heroic, and a terrific soprano.  Worth at least four, maybe three and a half.  And did I happen to mention... he's in love?  With a girl.  Due to be married.  Betrothed.  Dividing him from her and her from him would only be half as cruel as acutally allowing him to be joined in holy matrimony.  Eh?"  Jones:  "I keep the boy!  Ninety-nine souls."  Oh, nice try Jack.

So with that Jack sails to the lovely port of Tortuga (which by the way means turtle in Spanish) to collect ninety-nine more souls to trade to Davy Jones.  Jack:  "How are we doing ?"  Gibbs:  "Including those four, that gives us four."  Progress!  Then, a surprise visitor shows up, James Norrington, here in Tortuga to join Captain Jack Sparrow's crew!  Who would have thought?  Meanwhile, Will is trapped onboard the Dutchman with his father, trying to find away to free both himself, his father, and Elizabeth.  And the rest is to be continued....

"Depends On The Light"

Jack must have gotten his craziness from somewhere?  Of course, "Not a lot's known about Jack Sparrow before he showed up in Tortuga with a mind to go after the treasure of the Isla de Muerta. That was before I'd met him, back when he was captain of the Black Pearl." -Gibbs.  So for the first two movies they don't mention Jack's past much.  Everyone assumes he's just wierd because he usually is drunk.  But in The Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End we start to wonder if Jack is Jack because of genes.  His father, Edward Teague, shows up at the Brethren Court as they argue about the king of the Pirate Lords.  Teague is the keeper of the pirate code.  Jack is just delighted to be reunited with his father.

Jack and his father have a good father-to-son bonding time in the cove.  Captain Jack: "What? You've seen it all, done it all. You survived. That’s the trick, isn’t it? To survive?" Teague: "It’s not just about living forever, Jackie. The trick is living with yourself forever." Jack then asks about how his mother is doing.  I'm guessing her last name is Sparrow, because Jack isn't Captain Jack Teague.  He just holds up a little, shriveled up head.  Good to see mum again, right Jack?

Jack really heads his father's advice about wanting to live forever in The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  After saving his son's life, Teague and Jack go to their favorite place: a bar!  Teague: "I heard where you're headed. The Fountain."  Jack: "Have you been there?" Teague: "Does this face looks like it's been to the Fountain of Youth?" Jack: "Depends on the light."  Oh Jack, always so polite.  


Teague: "Find out every detail before you set sail."  Jack: "Set sail?  I'd love to, but for that I may need a ship."  Teague:  "Those folk over there.  They have a ship.  They're signing up sailor over there."  Smooth.  You just sent your son over only to get himself imprisoned upon the Queen Anne's Revenge.  Such a great role model.  Teague:  "And one last thing, Jackie.  The Fountain tests you.  Mark my words."  Edward and Jack, like father like son. 

"...And I'm gonna take it."

Ahhh back to the beginning. Jack Sparrow is searching for his ship The Black Pearl. But first he has to wake up his old pal Joshamee Gibbs. Who like any other pirate on his day off is drunk and passed out with a bunch of pigs. Sounds like fun ehh? Wide awake after a quick dousing Gibbs is wondering what Jack is doing waking up an old pirate like him. "I'm going after 'The Black Pearl'...I know where it's going to be, and I'm gonna take it.""Jack, it's a fool's errand. You know better than me the tales of the Black Pearl."
"That's why I know what Barbossa is up to. All I need is a crew."
"From what I hear tell of Captain Barbossa, he's not a man to suffer fools, nor strike a bargain with one." "Well, then I'd say it's a very good thing I'm not a fool, then, eh?"  Well that sounds like a great plan Jack! Except he has no crew. but he does have a nice big boat curtsey of the British Navy. You all remember that story of course he and will stormed on board and commandeered  the ship no harm no foul right?


Wrong.  Norrington was quite upset at the loss of his ship and sets sail after them to reclaim it.  Hmm quite a lot of borrowing without asking going on if you ask me.  Anyways Jack hires his crew of swashbukling pirates thanks to the help of Gibbs:"I'll find us a crew. There's bound to be some sailors on this rock, crazy as you.""One can only hope. Take what you can!""Give nothin' back!"  and they set sail on a great adventure to find and hopefully defeat Hector Barbossa and reclaim Jack's ship 'The Black Pearl'.  They catch up with good old Barbossa after a while, Jack confronts his mortal enemy and jerks his tail around with rude little jokes about; apples...? Apples, really Jack you sounds SO threatening. NOT, but Jack knows something the rest of his crew does not; Hector Barbossa hasn't tasted an apple in years and instantly grows tired of Jack's insolence and refuses to turn over the ship. 

Jack gets thrown off the ship and the rest of crew is held captive by Barbossa. Well you just had to bring up the apples didn't you Jack? After being marrooned on a familiar island with Elizabeth Swann for a while she goes crazy and burns all the rum in hopes of being found be her fiance the great James Norrington, who just happens to be in the area anyways looking for Jack and gives them a lift back to the middle of the ocean, Where Jack Convinces him to go after the pirates who kidnapped his gorgeous bride-to-be Elizabeth, all the while planning his revenge on the man who stole his pride and joy away from him: Hector Barbossa.  Norrington being love struck and foolish listens to Jack and sets sail for Isla de Muerta.  But his opponents are far more menacing then he thinks. 

Norrington splits up his men and takes some with him while leaving some on board his vessel. His men fight valiantly in battle but were losing quite badly by the time Jack intervened  unknowingly saving Norrington's life and many lives of other British naval officers.  But how might you ask did he accomplish this  act of heroism. Well he had his newest friend Will Turner cut open his hand. Ending the curse that was placed on Barbossa and his crew man years ago. And just as Barbosssa thinks he has won Jack shoots him in the heart and denies him the pleasure of finishing his first apple in years. 


                    Jack however isn't done yet, he gets recaptured by the British Navy and is all set to be hung the public arena (which just happens to be on a balcony quite close to the ocean) but his crew saves the day  and Jack narrowly escapes the gallows. But of course he would have even without the help of his friends (well maybe) because he is Captain Jack Sparrow, Savvy?

"How Can I Trust You?"

As we all know, Elizabeth secretly kissed/killed Captain Jack Sparrow leading him to be taken to the locker of Davy Jones.  Well, the trick is on her because she ends up sailing to the end of the world just to save the person she recently killed.  And the funny thing is, not only does she have to sail there, but she wastes the whole crew's time.  Think about it, if she hadn't sent him to kraken in the first place, what would have happened?  Well, I think you get the message.  Elizabeth:" I'm not sorry." Selfish much.

What's even worse is she keeps her secret from her fiance, Will Turner.  It gets a little awkward when Jack reveals their little fiasco.  Of course, Will doesn't really appriciate the love of his life going out and smooching with other men. For example: James Norrington  who had thought that he were special to her. A few moments after Elizabeth and James's kiss Admiral Norrington is stabbed by non other than Boot Strap Bill, father of Will Turner her fiance. He must not like all this betrayal on his son. James Norrington: "Our destinies have been entwined Elizabeth, but never joined."

Not to mention her little episode with Pirate Lord Sao Feng who apparently was totally certain that Elizabeth was the sea goddess, Calypso, bound in human form by the first brethren court. Seconds after kissing her a cannon is shot right into the ship, blow him up and just barely missing Elizabeth. Weird how every man she kisses is killed momentarily.  Suspicious.  Sao Feng: "With all nine Pieces of Eight, you will be free. Take it! You are captain now."

As you can assume, Will isn't a big fan of all these secret encounters.  Will: "You left Jack to the kraken."  Elizabeth: "He's rescued now, it's done with."  Will: "You chose not to tell me."  Elizabeth: "I couldn't.  It wasn't your burden to bear."  Will: "But I did bear it, didn't I? I just didn't know what it was. I thought..."  Elizabeth: "You thought I loved him."  Well, he did see you kissing and you kept pouting  once he was gone.  Then, for some reason, she gets mad at him and tries to storm away dramatically.  Upset, Will blocks her way.  Will: "If you make your choices alone... how can I trust you?"  Elizabeth: "You can't."  She then pushes through him and storms away.  Towards the end of the movie after just getting married to Elizabeth (involving more kissing). Will is stabbed by Davy Jones himself. Coincidence, I  think NOT!

"I'm Not With You Neither Am I Against You"

Jack: "Oi. What did that poor son do...how can I make sure to not?"  

Scrum: "A missionary is the story. What I heard, was he got captured in a raid. The rest on the ship got killed, but not him. First Mate wouldn't let it happen, on account his premier standing with the Lord."  Philip Swift finds himself in a sticky situation.  He must have been on a boat that was attacked by the Queen Anne's Revenge, but being a minister, Angelica, apparently a Catholic, refuses to let anyone kill him, because it might upset God.  So they show mercy on him and tie him to the mast and let him hang there, half asleep.  

That is, until Jack and the rest of the crew members attempt mutiny.  Jack and Salaman climb up to the minister.  Salaman: "You're either with us or against us." Philip: "I'm not with you neither am I against you."  Salaman: "Can he do that?"  Jack: "He's religious.  I believe its required."  Blackbeard, discovery the mutiny onboard his ship, becomes furious.  Philip tries to calm him down and help him do the right thing.  Assuring him that even the soul of an evil man like Blackbeard can be saved.  Blackbeard agrees not to shoot Philip, because of Angelica, but blasts Greek Cannons at a different crew member.  So from then on, they allow Philip to roam freely around the ship rather than tying him up again.  

When the Queen Anne's Revenge reaches Whitecap Bay to capture the mermaid needed for the fountain, madness breaks out there too, as they are attacked by mermaids.  However, at the end of the fight, when it looks as though all hope is lost, Philip calls out that he's found a caught mermaid.  "Well done, sailor." -Blackbeard.

The funny thing is, he falls in love with the person he helps capture.  It all starts off when he saves her life by forcing open the coffin she is carried in.  This was a waste because the crew later gets tired of the coffin and gets rid of it anyways.  By the way, her name is Syrena.  How Philip knows the name is a real mystery to us don't you think?  The two never talk but Philip seems quite certain its her name.  Blackbeard: "Bring the creature."  Philly: "She has a name!"  Blackbeard: "Pray tell."  Philip: "She is Syrena."  Ontop of randomly deciding her name, he also makes it spelled strangly.  Not Serena, but Syrena.  Sparks fly after they have ditched the coffin.  With out the water, she takes her humaly form.  But she is unable to walk by herself.  Philip, being the most amazing person in the world, gives her his shirt to cover her naked body and carries her through the jungle.

Philip seems to think that she has shown kindness and compassion when she made him carry her around.  True love.  "That vile creature as you call her is worth a hundred of you." -Taylor Swift's great great great great great great great grandfather to Mr. Beard.  It's pretty ironic of him to say that, though considering what happens next.  Blackbeard desparetly needs her tear for the fountain.  So desperate they almost kill Philip for it.  "You care for her...you fancy her. Do not deny what is clear to my eyes. Question is...does she fancy you? By God, she does. We are in luck! Bring forth a tear...or witness the death of this poor soul."  Are we in third grade now Blackbeard?  Are we going to start making fun of girls because they have cooties?  Philip and Syrena sitting in a tree.  K-I-S-S-I-N-G.  First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the Taylor Swift in the baby carriage!

Of course, after watching what she thinks is his death, she still doesn't shed a tear.  He wasn't really killed though.  Just knocked out.  So when he regains conscious he quickly hurries to her and tells her how much he loves her.  Moved with love, a tear escapes from her eye.  The crew is too quick and gather the tear.  Philip: "Syrena, on my word I had no part in this!" 

The crew takes Philip with them to the fountain, but during the choatic battle that breaks out, he sneaks away, back to where she was left to die.  He finds her, both of them close to death.  He frees her bonds, hoping to save her.  Philip: "I seak but one thing."  Syrena: "What is that?"  Philip: "Forgiveness.  If not for me, you'd never have been captured."  Syrena: "Ask."  Philip: "Forgive me."  And with that, she kisses him and drags him down into the water.  Now, where she takes him is also a mystery.  Does she eat him like all the mermaids do to men?  Is she actually different like he thought?  So many questions unanswered.

"Are We Not King's Men?"

The unthinkable becomes thinkable in The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  Are you ready for this?  Hector Barbossa joins the Royal Navy.  Now that he no longer has the Black Pearl (and a leg) Barbossa hopes that by joining the navy he will be able to captain a ship and gain back his (well, more like Jack's) Pearl.  So he puts on a wig (becoming even less attractive) and leads the HMS Providence to the fountain of youth.  He ultimately becomes captain of the whole British navy.  James Norrington never would have approved that.  "Pirate? Nay. Privateer. On a sanctioned mission, under the authority and protection of the Crown."  Well aren't you cool?

But to get to the Fountain, you have to have the maps, which he doesn't.  Jack does, that is until he gives them to Gibbs.  But Gibbs is too smart to be taken advantage of by Barbossa.  He burns the charts before he lets anyone see them.  Now, for Barbossa to have anyway of finding the fountain, he has to take Gibbs along.  Which when you think about it, isn't really that bad.  "Your head or my heading, I'll have me one or the other, I don't care which." -Barbossa

They set sail, with Joshamee Gibbs as their navigator.  But the crew members begin to get rather tired from sailing and begin to question.  Lucky for them, Captain Barbossa has a pep talk up his sleeve. Barbossa: "Are we not kings men? Aye! Hands aloft, and bear away! Stave on ahead to Whitecap Bay!"  They get especially angry when they watch the Spaniards sail right past them.  "The Fountain is the prize. It appears we be not even worth the time it take to sink us. Now, we've fallen behind! All hands! Make more sail!"  They are determined to win the race to the fountain against the Spaniards and Blackbeard's ship The Queen Anne's Revenge.

Speaking of Blackbeard, Barbossa's real reason for leading the exposition to the Fountain of Youth is to again meet Blackbeard, but this time, Barbossa will get his revenge by killing Blackbeard. Jack: "You're not after the fountain."  Barbossa: "I care not for King George or tavern yarns that give hope for a healed limb. But I'd give my left arm for a chance at Blackbeard." Jack: "Not your right?"  Barbossa: "I need me good arm to drive my poisoned blade through his heart."  Jack: "I'll see you get the chance mate."  And Jack keeps his word on this one.  Once all three parties have arrived at the fountain, the Royal Navy tries to claim the land as theirs.  Well, until the person get shot.  Then the Spaniard begin to destroy it without even using it.  This brings about madness, and next thing you know, everyone is fighting.  Alas, Barbossa stabs Blackbeard with is poisoned sword, as well as poisoning Angelica.  Jack pulls together the last bit of water from the fountain, allowing Angelica to live.  Blackbeard on the other hand, dies.

"I claim Blackbeard's ship and crew and this payment for me missing limb."  Well, that seems like a fair trade.  As it turns out, Barbossa does not gain back The Black Pearl rather he gets Queen Anne's Revenge.  His pirating days have come again!  "The Crown served me well. But now, by the Gods of sea and sky, make way for Tortuga!"  You know what they say, once a pirate, always a pirate.

"I keep the promises I make, Jack."

  13 years ago Jack made a deal with the "devil" of the high seas; Davy Jones, he was given 13 years of pirating in exchange for 100 years on board The Flying Dutchman. His 13 years have come to a close and Davy Jones wants what he is owed:100 years from Jack Sparrow. And of course Jack being the crafty conniving pirate that he is offers friend up to save his own soul."Have you not met Will Turner? He's noble, heroic, terrific soprano." However, Davy Jones refuses to take the deal, "One soul is not always equal to another."  But Davy Jones is also conniving and he takes Will anyways.  So Will ends up with Davy and Jack has to find some other way to stay off The Flying Dutchman. But Will has a mission, Find the key that unlocks the chest that contains the heart of Davy Jones.

While on board The Flying Dutchman, Will has a surprising encounter with his father; Who has been presumed dead for 20 years. Will enlists him to help him on his mission. Bootstrap Bill has no idea where the key is kept so he isn't much help right away. However he does manage to save Will's life by losing a game of Liar's Dice and forfeiting another 100 years of his life so that his son can remain free.

But that night Will sneaked into Davy Jones' room and found what his was looking for; The Key. Now comes the tricky part, getting it out. Davy Jones kept his key hidden within his tentacle beard thing, (and I bet you no one has ever tried to steal it before Will, can you imagine sticking your hand up in there?)  Will uses a feather pen to extract the key and then places the cloth key into the hiding spot.  After this Will hightails it out of there and get rescued by a Dutch merchant ship. But unbeknownst to Will and his rescuers Davy has sent his favorite pet out after them. The Kraken.  

Will of course doesn't die but lands his butt back on The Flying Dutchman, (fail) where he stays stowed away until they reach the island of Isla Cruces. Jack, Norrington, and Elizabeth start walking inland in hopes of finding the chest that contains the heart of Davy Jones. And of course they find it (because it wouldn't really be a story if they didn't.) And Will shows up right on time with the key.  But they run into some problems trying to decide what to do with the heart. Will wants it to free his father, Norrington wants it to get his title back, and Jack just wants it. Well being the dastardly pirates that they all are they decided to have a duel to decide who would make the decision.  But they are gentlemanly and refuse to let Elizabeth fight with them, so the three men run of into the jungle fighting all the way.

Now this doesn't make Elizabeth very happy so she goes into one of her legendary fake fainting spells on the beach. But there is no one there to see it so all she gets out of that is sand in her hair. So she decides to chase the men in hopes of joining the fight. She catches them eventually but she doesn't join in she just grabs the chest and runs. However, she isn't aware of the Dutchman crewmen chasing after her until one slings a sword and barely misses chopping her head off. But she keeps running and eventually runs into Pintel and Raggeti (aka the silly pirates)  they help her hold off the crewmen and then snatch the chest fight out of her hands while she is fighting, and run off to hide it. While this is going on, Jack disengages from the fight and runs of to hide the heart he had stolen from the chest quite awhile ago. But while he and will are fight Norrington sneaks off and takes the heart out of Jack's jar of dirt, and hides it in his satchel. So by now the duel is pretty much over, And Will and Jack return to the boat. Jack thinks he has the heart hidden in his jar and taunts Davy with it until he dumps out his dirt and realizes that it was snatched right out from under his nose. Whoops.  Now this got Davy Jones quite angry and while Jack and his crew are sailing away he sends the Kraken after them. Will the Black Pearl and her crew survive???? I'm sure you will find out eventually.

"We're Not Back"

Possibly the saddest moment of the series is in The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End when Elizabeth finds her father in the land of the dead.  We never really learn what happened to Elizabeth's mother, but she is never shown or mentioned, assuming she has passed away.  Which only causes this encounter to be even more tragic, because Elizabeth must now return to the land of the living, parentless.

When Elizabeth first sees her father while she is safely on board the Black Pearl after saving Jack, she thinks that they've returned.  She's incredibly happy to see him in a little row boat amoung many others.  "Elizabeth, we're not back," Jack says solemnly.  That changes everything.  She begins to frantically call to her father. Weatherby Swann: "Elizabeth, are you dead?"  Elizabeth: "No. No." Weatherby: "I think I am."  Elizabeth: "No, you can't be."  The former governor just sits in his little row boat, calmly as he sails to the afterlife.  Elizabeth on the other hand, does the exact opposite.  She throws a rope overboard to him, asking him to climb on.  But it's too late.  She tragically screams and cries and you really can't help but feel sorry for her when he doesn't take the rope.  He calmly tells her that he's just so proud of her.  When they last saw eachother, he was risking his life to get her safely out of Port Royal.  Of course, after that she sails around the globe doing tons of dangerous stuff, but ya know.  Tia Dalma commands that she doesn't leave the ship, so every on has to hold her back.  And eventually she is thrusted into dear Will's arms as she weeps.

Now how did Weatherby Swann end up in the land of the dead in the first place?  Surely he wasn't on a mission to save Jack.  Well, we know that he too is arrested at the beginning of The Prrates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and taken before Lord Beckett to bargain.  "So you see, Mercer, every man has a price he will willingly accept, even for what he hopes never to sell." -Beckett.  He utlimately agrees to give Beckett whatever so long as he keeps his daughter safe.  

So he goes on a little adventure with Beckett inorder to help him control the seas with Davy Jones.  That is, until Beckett decides that he has no more use for him.  Mercer: "He's a sly one, that Jones; who's going to kill him, if they know they'll be killing?" Beckett: "I can order Admiral Norrington's silence. He'll obey; it's what he does."  Mercer: "And the governor?" Beckett: "Yes.
